YouTube to Sell Advertising on Pages of Search Results

I found the article "YouTube to Sell Advertising on Pages of Search Results" in the New York Times. The author is Stephanie Clifford and it was published on November 12, 2008.

This article says that Google announced that it would begin selling space on YouTube search-results pages to advertisers. This is part of its effort to turn its expensive acquisition into a major revenue producer.

The feature allows anyone who has a video on YouTube to promote it on a serch-results page. The promoted videos are featured on the right-hand side of the YouTube search-results page with a small image and some text. Moreover, advertisers are charged when a viewer clicks on the ad. Google also determines which ads will be shown based on what price the advertisers bid. Accorindg to the article, a search product for YouTube makes sense because it had the third highest number of search queries of any Web property in September, after Google and Yahoo.

In addition, this is one of several efforts that Google has made to increase revenue at YouTube. It has started showing ads within videos and running contests sponsored by marketers.

Management is vital when a company wants to sell space on search-results pages because the main goal is to increase revenue. Technology is helping Google to sell space on YouTube search-results pages to advertisers. Nowadays, companies don't just sell products and services, but they also are selling space. This is because technology is influencing today's market by allowing companies to do business in the Internet.

Keeping Your Rivals From Minding Your Business

I found an article in the New York Times called "Keeping Your Rivals From Minding Your Business." This artilce was published on November 12, 2008 and the author is David Strom.

This article is related to small businesses who rely on e-mail and instant messaging for their communications. Businesses would do well to use a number of inexpensive methods to preserve privacy and ensure that messages are read only by the intended recipient.

An obvious remedy for business people to preserve privacy is to keep their computers with them, rather than leaving them in a hotel room or locked car. When it is not possible to keep physical possession of the computer, people can take a number of protective measures to ensure that only its owner has access. According to the article, one of the simplest ways is to use the "built-in fingerprint reader" on your laptop, if it has one. Another option is to secure a laptop's files with an encryption program like "TrueCrypt," which is free. These programs render all the files "indecipherable" if the laptop falls into the wrong hands. Moreover, some USB flash drives also come with encryption software.

In addition, businesses no longer need to run their own e-mail networks because many inexpensive alternatives will rent them as many mailboxes as needed. These providers will also manage the entire e-mail process and offer a full collection of features, including the ability to block messages that contain spam and viruses.

One of the functions of the management department is to preserve the privacy of the most important documents of the company. Nowadays, technology offers a variety of products and/or services to companies to protect "top secret" files. Most companies use laptops to save their most important documents, so they need to advantage of today's technology.

Google Is Taking Questions (Spoken, via iPhone)

I found the article "Google Is Taking Questions (Spoken, via iPhone)" in the New York Times. This article was published on November 4, 2008 by John Markoff.

This article talks about Google researchers who have added sophisticated voice recognition technology to the company's search software for the Apple iPhone. Google's voice search software works only with iPhones, but the company plans to make it available to other phone companies.

Users of the free application can place the phone to their ear and ask virtually any question, such as "Where's the nearest Starbucks?" According to the article, the sound is converted to a digital file and then sent to Google's servers, which try to determine the words spoken and pass them along to the Google search engine.

The search results, which may be displayed in just seconds on a fast wireless network, will at times include local information, taking advantage of iPhone features that let it determine its location. The ability to recognize just about any phrase or word from any person has long been the main goal of artificial intelligence researchers looking for ways to make "man-machine" interactions more natural.

The function of management in this case is to explore innovative ways to improve existing products or services. Technology is now the key to success in today's business world. Google and Apple are two of the most innovate companies in the world, and they are taking advantage of today's technology to improve their services.

Target Corporation October Sales Down 0.7 Percent

I found the article "Target Corporation October Sales Down 0.7 Percent" in the New York Times. This article was published on November 6,2008.

Target Corporation reported that its net retail sales for the four weeks ended November 1, 2008 decreased 0.7 percent. Target's current sales disclosure practices includes a sales recording on the day of the monthly sales release.

Sales for the month of October were considered disappointed. Chief executive officer of Target Coporation expects these results to continue into the holiday season and beyond as a result of the economic factors currently affecting consumer spending.

Target Corporation's retail segment includes large general merchandise and food discount stores and Target.com, a fully integrated on-line business. Moreover, the company operates a credit card segment that offers branded proprietary and Visa credit card products. The company currently operates 1,684 Target stores in 48 states.

Management is always responsible for the economic situation of a company. The management department needs to anticipate or forecast future sales in order to decrease possible losses. Technology plays an important role in this situation because of the current economic crisis. Target Corporation joined forces with Visa to enhance a better shoping experience for their guests. Target also started to use RFID tags on cases and pallets, as part of its new technology.

Why Facebook Likes Small Ads, Despite the Small Dollars

I found an article in the New York Times called "Why Facebook Likes Small Ads, Despite the Small Dollars." The author is Saul Hansell.

This article talks about an ad on the front of both Facebook and MySpace promoting the Fox movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still." However, Facebook and MySpace have displayed the same ad differently.

On MySpace, the ad filled the entire page. When you clicked on it, you go automatically to the movie's web site. On the other hand, the ad on Facebook was a tiny rectangle in the right-hand column of its home page. Wheh you clicked on it, you will see a tiny trailer for the film.

When it comes to adversiting, Facebook is thinking small. This happens because small ads give them small revenue, especially compared to MySpace. Facebook is not making much money from advertising becaue of its size. Moreover, marketers don't seem to be all that excited about what it is offering them.

Many people like Facebook's approach to ads because it tries to use user feedback on the kind of ads you want to be displayed. However, this approach is not helping Facebook for economic growth. For this reason, Facebook has introduced a product called "social ads" that shows users the name and photo of one of their friends who uses or likes a given product. This method is to find out which products its users like.

Management plays an important role in this situation because the major goal for any company is to increase profits. Facebook is using technology for their advertisemnets. The "social ad" method helps them to know what to advertise. Technology is now helping Facebook to desing new methods to adverstise products to specific people.
